SIP (Sterilise-In-Place)
A high-temperature steam or chemical sterilisation cycle run on installed equipment without disassembly, required for aseptic operations.
SIP (Sterilise-In-Place) is the sterilisation counterpart to CIP. Where CIP cleans, SIP sterilises, using steam (typically 121°C for 30+ minutes) or peracetic-acid sterilant to achieve a validated 6-log microbial reduction.
SIP is mandatory for **aseptic filling lines**, sterile-filtration loops, and any process with 12+ month shelf-life claims. The cycle is fully PLC-driven, with temperature, time, and pressure logged for audit.
A typical aseptic line runs SIP after every CIP cycle and before any production run. The combined CIP + SIP turnaround is typically 2.5-4 hours.
