Six things that decide where you land in the range
Hot-fill vs aseptic
The single biggest fork. Hot-fill is simpler and cheaper: fill at 85–92°C into heat-resistant PET, invert to sterilise the cap, cool. Aseptic sterilises product and pack separately and fills cold, which protects colour and flavour and allows lighter bottles, but roughly doubles the capital. For most RTS brands entering the market, hot-fill is the right first line.
Fruit handling on site
Taking in whole fruit means washing, sorting, destoning, pulping and a much larger civil footprint. Buying in aseptic pulp and reconstituting is far cheaper to build and lets you run twelve months from a six-week harvest. Which one you choose changes the project more than capacity does.
Pasteurisation and homogenisation
A tubular or plate pasteuriser sized to your product, plus a homogeniser where pulp content demands it. Under-specifying here shows up as separation on the shelf, which is a brand problem rather than a machinery one.
Pack format
PET is the RTS workhorse and the cheapest to start. Tetra and other carton formats need aseptic filling and a different capital profile. Glass suits premium and returnable models. Pouches and spouted packs are a separate line again.
Fruit and SKU count
Mango, mixed fruit, orange and litchi across 200ml, 600ml and 1L means more CIP circuits, more syrup capacity and quick-change handling. A single-fruit, single-SKU line is materially cheaper to build and simpler to run.
Utilities already on site
Steam boiler, glycol chilling, air compressor and DG are often 15–25% of a project. Juice needs more thermal and cooling capacity than water does, so this share is higher than a water plant of the same nominal speed.
What the machinery quote does not include
Juice carries a working-capital profile water does not. These are the lines that turn a funded project into a stalled one.
Fruit is harvested in weeks and sold over a year. Either you buy pulp through the year at market prices, or you fund a large pulp inventory in season. This is the single biggest working-capital difference between juice and water.

Do I need to buy fruit or can I use pulp?
Aseptic pulp is what most successful RTS brands run on. It turns a six-week harvest into a twelve-month business, removes the washing, sorting, destoning and pulping section entirely, and cuts both the capital and the civil footprint substantially. Handling whole fruit only makes sense when you have a reliable local supply, the volume to justify the line, and a reason to control the pulp yourself.
How much does a juice filling machine cost?
It is quoted as part of the line rather than on its own, because the filler has to be matched to the process ahead of it. Within a hot-fill RTS plant at ₹1.1–2.2 crore turnkey, the filling and capping monoblock is one section alongside pasteurisation, blending, the syrup room and end-of-line packaging. Buying a filler separately and pairing it with an under-specified pasteuriser is the most common expensive mistake in this category.
What is RTS juice?
RTS stands for Ready To Serve — a fruit drink diluted to around 10–15% fruit content, sweetened and ready to drink without further dilution. It is the largest juice category in India by volume and the one most regional brands compete in. It is distinct from 100% juice, from nectars at roughly 20–50% fruit, and from squashes, which are concentrated and diluted by the consumer.
